My 10 Favorite Firefox Add-Ons (March 2009 Edition)

Every few months lists with recommended software and websites need an update. Here is my personal list of recommended Add-Ons for Firefox 3:

  • Firebug – Simply “the tool” for CSS/JavaScript debugging. Nothing comes close
  • YSlow – Firebug add-on to help determine performance bottlenecks of websites
  • Web Developer toolbar – Two hands full of tools for web developers
  • DownThemAll – The first and only download manager/accelerator built inside Firefox!
  • Google Preview – Adds preview thumbnails to google search engine results in Google
  • ScreenGrab – It will capture what you can see in the window, the entire page, just a selection, a particular frame… basically it saves webpages as images – either to a file, or to the clipboard.
  • Live PageRank – Display PageRank for active URL
  • Amazon S3 Firefox Organizer (S3Fox) and Elasticfox for EC2 – if you are using Amazon Web Services (S3 and EC2)
  • Chromifox Basic Theme – Simply a nice theme for Firefox

    Dear Dirk,
You list is fantastic, as are your other Favorites, but I wish you would try out Web of Trust too. WOT has been on Mozilla’s recommended list since last summer, and has 4 million downloads. WOT is a security add-on that warns users about risky sites and unreliable online shops. Safety ratings are shown next to search results when using Google, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, Digg and other popular sites, including web-based email.

Web site rating information is continuously updated by the user community and from numerous trusted sources, such as listings of malware and phishing sites. WOT works with Internet Explorer (including IE8) and Firefox browsers and can be downloaded at http://www.mywot.com.

I hope you will try it and that WOT will make the top of your next favorites list!

    Safe surfing,
    Deborah
    Web of Trust
